2008 Festival Directors

Jen Bendik – Festival Co-Director
The Philadelphia Film Festival, The Philadelphia International Gay & Lesbian Film Festival, Eastern State Penitentiary's Terror Behind the Walls, Film Independent's L.A. Film Festival and now in her second year coordinating GreenFest Philly. Jen has a mixed career of running and working for high profile events and stage managing all over Philadelphia and Los Angeles. She has a Bachelor of Arts in Theatre and Art History from Temple University.

 

Sean Jacobs – Festival Co-Director
Sean is committed to bringing people together around positive change. Prior to joining GreenFest Philly, Sean directed several environmental campaigns and events with Clean Air Council: 5K Run for Clean Air & Earth Day Celebration, 2005-2008
Philadelphia Green Ports Program/Mid-Adlantic Clean Ports Workshops 2006-2007
Pennsylvania Zero Mercury Campaign
Sean also worked on a series of political campaigns in New Jersey, Virginia, Iowa, Rhode Island and Pennsylvania. Sean is an accopmlished yoga teacher, singer and actor. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Rider University.

 

Maleka Fruean – Director of Children's Programming
Maleka is the events coordinator at Big Blue Marble Bookstore, voted Best Kids' Bookstore in 2007 by Philadelphia Magazine. She also creates and organizes events for LAVA, a radical activist media center, and has worked on Ladyfest Philly and the Black Women's Arts Festival. She is a mama, writer, artist, and supporter of sustainable, local communities.

 

Megan R. Smith, Brownstone PR – Director of Media Relations
Owner & President of Brownstone PR, Megan R. Smith has the know-how and the extensive contact list to take any individual, company or non-profit organization to the next level. A native of Washington, D.C. and graduate of Temple University with a B.A. in Journalism, Smith is a creative writer and skilled commuicator with several years of experience providing PR, business development and event planning services to mid- to large-size companies, select individuals and young start-ups. Within the first 6 months of starting Brownstone PR in June 2007, she had amassed a total of 12 clients and a growing staff.

Smith has a knack for making Brownstone clients stand out from the pack and taking them to the very top, as evidenced by the strong features she has secured in media outlets such as CNN, MSNBC, KYW radio, USA Today, The Wall Street Journal, Newsweek, Forbes, Black Enterprise, Glamour and Philadelphia Style, to name a few. Smith herself has been quoted by such media sources as CN8, Your Morning Show, The Philadelphia Inquirer, The Philadelphia Business Journal, The Washington Post and Essence, along with being profiled in Rittenhouse Magazine's Young Entrepreneurs issue.

 

Jenny Deller- Eco-Film Forum Coordinator
Jenny is the writer-director-producer of Future Weather, a family drama that explores climate crisis through the eyes of a 13-year-old girl. Production is scheduled for Summer 2009, in and around the Philadelphia region. With sponsors such as the Sustainable Group, GreenerPrinters and Ecological Hosting, Future Weather Productions aims to make as many sustainable production choices as possible on a micro-budget and share what they learn with other independent filmmakers. They have begun documenting this process on their blog, The Future Weather Report. If you have a story of green activism you'd like to share, please email info@futureweathermovie.com.

 

Kaitlyn Bendik – Festival Intern
Kaitlyn is a senior at Philadelphia University majoring in Environmental and Conservation Biology. This summer, she is doing her intership with Fairmount Park; last summer, she interned with The Schulykill Center for Environmental Education. Upon graduating she aspires to get a job reclaiming and remediating brownfields via phytoremediation. Her dream is to also one day run her own Greyhound Rescue. For now, she settles for having rescued her 7-year-old greyhound, Jade.
