Art
The presentation of works by several artists who explore green issues is being organized by curator Brian Campbell.
Recycle On-Site: Worms, batteries & more
Bring a clean conscience: Recycling Bank and Niche Waste Reduction and Recycling Systems will manage the waste stream at the Festival. We’re planning to divert more than 60% from the day’s waste stream. You do the sorting. Our bicycle brigade will do the hauling. And earth worms here—vermiculture—will make the most of your organic leavings. You can also find out how to host your own worm works, at home or office.
Bring your old batteries and cell phones to GreenFest Philly. Whole Foods Market will accept and recycle them. And check with the reception area at Zagar’s mosaic garden about the kind of old mirrors they can re-use.
Bicycle Thrill Show – the 5 P’s
When pedals power perfect police patrols, look to our South Street detail! See the impressive police skills they’ve perfected. Watch them climb and dive! On the hour. Special thanks to Lt. Gerry McShea.
Food So Good
Enjoy great food – from caterers and companies specializing in local, fair trade and organic. It will be served with biodegradable and recycled paper goods.
As to brain food, get to know the exhibitors here who are developing impressive solutions to assure a fair and sustainable food supply.
Organic Knitting Brigade
Bring your needles, sticks and drums and join this public performance piece. Led by the percussionist impresario Ron Kravitz and the Nangellini knitting brigade. Check back at his website in mid-August for exact time and place.
Recycled Paper at Greenfest Philly
Thanks to the public-spirited efforts of one of Philadelphia’s newest corporate citizens, SCA Americas, every one of the Festival’s food vendors will be serving with recycled paper towels and napkins.
Hotel Obligado
Have you ever seen green clown performance? The innovative street theater troupe Hotel Obligado uses collaborative ensemble work to explore socially complex issues in new and imaginative ways.
