Green Wedding

Winners of the Free Green Wedding

Megan Heckert, 28, and Allen Rue, 31, won their free green wedding to be held at Zagar’s Magic Mosaic Garden on South Street, one of the most popular public art installation in the city, Sunday Sept.9.    Caterer ChriStevens will serve a deliciously green menu, tapered to the tastes of the couple and thier 60 guests. Megan earned degrees in aquatic biology and geography from Brown and Temple. She later signed on with an environmental NGO through Peace Corps in Jamaica. Today she bicycles 11 miles to work daily, where she maps green spaces with new software. Allen studied at DeSales and Drexel universities, later joining an eco-service project in Australia, working to protect endangered species in the Outback. He is now headed to a specialized librarian job that requires his computer skills. Now they are combining their green lifestyles and strong love for each other in a beautiful green ceremony displaying both of their uniquely green personalities. Chestnut Hill’s Night Kitchen Bakery will provide a three-tiered organic cake. Wedding planner Carolyn Verdi (real name!) has been finessing all the details.  Ju Ju salon and Organics (designer stylists: Mackenzie Hughes, Meghan Kramer) will provide hair care, and for the bride, natural makeup. Main Line / Select Party Rentals is providing the tables, chairs and linens for the occasion. Other gift-givers to the couple include Organic Home LLC, Sun and Earth (a year’s supply of non-toxic cleaning products) and Cutter’s Mill Pet Store (for the couple’s two cats).  Environmental Home Store is contributing zero-VOC house paint, and Eyes Gallery offers a fair trade world culture gift.  Other generous supporters of this model green wedding include John and Kira’s Chocolates and Philly CarShare.  All Occasions Flowers will contribute organic blooms.SCA Americas is providing napkins and paper towels from secondary fiber.  Paperline is providing biodegradable utensils, plates and cups.
